It's time to share the eight YA and MG books that are at the top of my to-read list for the fall quarter of 2018!
Broken Things by Lauren Oliver is a YA fantasy thriller that releases on October 2nd. It seems to be inspired by the real-life Slender Man stabbing, where two young girls killed their friend as a sacrifice to a fictional entity. In this novel, the true murderer, and the existence of the fictional world, are called into question.
Grim Lovelies by Megan Shepherd is a YA fantasy novel that also releases on October 2nd. It follows a group of animals-turned-human by magic who, after being accused of the murder of their mistress, must find the true killer in order to save their human existences. Super interesting, right?
Also coming to you October 2nd, Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor is the second book in a YA fantasy duology. It follows a librarian with his head in the clouds who joins an expedition to a not-so-mythical city where the gods and their children were killed for their viciousness--but one group of children secretly survived and now torment the humans with nightmares. The first book was gorgeous and phenomenal.
Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore is another YA fantasy novel that releases on October 9th. It follows two sisters facing up to the family curse, where they will one day play a magical game that will leave one of them trapped in the body of a swan.
The Turnaway Girls by Hayley Chewins is an MG fantasy novel that also releases on October 9th. It's takes place in a world where women are forbidden to sing, where girls live in a cloister weaving men's songs into gold. When one of them gets her chance to leave the cloister, she discovers the incredible power of her own voice while getting caught up in the complex politics all around her.
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan is a YA fantasy novel releasing on November 6th. It takes place in a world where eight girls from the lower caste are chosen each year to become consorts of the king. When one of the girls falls into a forbidden love, she gets caught up in an explosive plot that may change everything.
Toxic by Lydia Kang is a YA sci-fi novel that also releases on November 6th. It follows a girl trapped on a dying biological spaceship who, to ensure her own survival, must uncover the reason why crew members studying the ship's death are also dying.
Umbertouched by Livia Blackburne is the second novel in a YA fantasy duology. It follows a young healer who has caught the rose plague, making her potentially deadly to anyone who doesn't already have the plague. Along with a soldier whose memory is suppressed by her treatments, she undertakes a secret reconnaissance mission against a kingdom that rejects and mistreats everyone who is sick like her. I really enjoyed the first book, so I'm excited to read this next one, releasing on November 6th.
What books are you most looking forward to in October through December? Let me know in the comments, add the ones above to your list, and I'll be back next week with our quarterly humor roundup!
