Welcome, everyone, to the latest installment of On This Day in My History! As usual, I will be going through my many diaries (which begin in November 1999) to see what has happened on May 2nd throughout my life so far. I will then provide a summary here.
No May 2nd entry in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005.
May 2, 2006, Twelve Years Old (Sixth Grade)
Today, one of my friends was absent from school. We did the shuttle run test in P.E., and as usual, I did not do great on it. In language arts class, we played Kid Biz and talked about Greek mythology, which was one of my favorite topics. We sixth graders then got some information about a ROPES trip we were going on the next day. In GATE class, my publishing mentor told me she was impressed with #IceEnchantressStory! I also drew some pictures of my cat in my diary. .
May 2, 2007, Thirteen Years Old (Seventh Grade)
On the bus, my crush told me that his friend, who bullied me a lot, had asked him out and he'd said no. I was pretty darn thrilled about that. In art class, we worked on pottery. In science class, we talked about fish. A couple of guys and I messed around with scissors and paper during language arts class. At lunch recess, a nearby lightning strike scared us all half to death. One of my friends thought the world might be ending because of that and a dream she'd had, LOL. In P.E., someone had stolen my shorts, so I had to track them down before doing the shuttle run and sit-up tests. My other classes were all normal.
May 2, 2008, Fourteen Years Old (Eighth Grade)
A bunch of deer were hanging out at my bus stop this morning. My crush maybe-flirted with me on the way to school. (He wasn't very good at it, LOL.) During language arts class, I got to look through an early copy of the yearbook, which I loved, being a huge yearbook fan and all. We had an advertising group project in health class, and I was annoyed because no one was listening to my ideas. Again. There was a mariachi band playing at lunch for some reason, except I spelled it "maruichi." We talked about convection in science class, worked on projects in journalism class, and my other classes were normal.
May 2, 2009, Fifteen Years Old (Ninth Grade)
It was a Saturday, and my friends and I rewatched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire together. I also got a facial, which I had regularly for a while because of my then-undiagnosed BDD.
May 2, 2010, Sixteen Years Old (Tenth Grade)
One of my brothers was busy running away from home every other day, and my other brother was busy running around the church building, so Mom and I spent this Sunday trying to wrangle them.
May 2, 2011, Seventeen Years Old (Eleventh Grade)
I dreamt about AP Lang tests and woke up a little late. I went to my before-school church-sponsored religion class, where we talked about a church figure from the early 1900s. My friends were in the middle of beta-reading #ProphecyStory, which I was a bit nervous about. In pre-calculus class, I had a hard time understanding tilt, and in choir, I had a fun time hanging out with friends. I worried a little about my face (my eyes kept getting smaller), but reminded myself that what I was seeing was likely not real and instead caused by the BDD. Ironically, we talked about OCD and other anxiety-related disorders in psychology class. I enjoyed myself at lunch, but ended up late to economics class because I forgot there were no bells today due to the ongoing AP exams. In economics, we talked about fiscal policy, and I struggled to stay awake. After school, I did the normal homework stuff.
May 2, 2012, Eighteen Years Old (Twelfth Grade)
My brother had a sinus infection. I was ready for summer break but not for graduation, which was a conflicted feeling. I dealt with my early morning religion class, which was about Obadiah, and spent my free period on homework and being bored. Orchestra was nice, and there was a moment where we all started messing around playing The Chronicles of Narnia music as weirdly as we could, which make me laugh really hard. The choir did a performance at lunchtime, which I had a solo in, and then I gave advice to my best friend LaPriel about romance (a topic I am clearly qualified to give advice on). We practiced for the AP test in AP Lit, and I was happy to go home. There was a youth church event that evening that I enjoyed. I continued to be confused about how everyone at high school thought I was "innocent" yet were surprised to find out I was LDS.
May 2, 2013, Nineteen Years Old (Freshman Year)
I had a nightmare about mentally unstable children with superpowers. In my aural skills class, I took my final ear exam, which went fine. Then I found out from the registrar that I had messed up on the pass/fail for concert attendance, as I only had 12 out of 15 required attendances and there were only two concerts left. I freaked out about how I was now going to get rejected for my BYU - Idaho transfer and would therefore become a bum on the street. My friends tried to help me out, but my vocal teacher, whom I'd had a falling out with prior to my decision to transfer, was not very sympathetic. I ended up in tears after our last voice lesson together. I did stuff online during my art lecture and was extremely grumpy at dinner, partly because I never wanted to eat another hamburger in my life after my experience eating gluten-free at ASU for a year. My friends calmed me down again, and we went to work on our music theory projects together.
May 2, 2014, Twenty Years Old (Pre-Sophomore Year)
I was at home before my transfer to BYU - Idaho. I had been struggling for a week already with an unexplained high fever, severe abdominal pain, and terrible nausea that only seemed to be getting worse despite antibiotics. I was starting to swell up or bloat all over, and I was getting really thirsty and kept having to pee. However, my mother was very busy with her job and didn't want to go back to the ER. The night before today, I couldn't sleep due to the symptoms. I went between the bathroom (on my knees waiting to throw up) and the living room with the cats and my brother, who was also awake. In the morning, Mom wouldn't take me to get help and kept saying it might be psychological, and instead she spent the morning taking care of my brothers. I was furious. Dad actually took me seriously, though, and did a pee test himself (because science) that showed signs of infection. That helped me calm down for a while, and I got some sleep, but then Dad started hanging out with some guy friends, and I got mad all over again that no one would help me. Once Mom got home from work, she finally agreed to take me to a doctor, though she refused to go back to an ER or Urgent Care. We managed to get in with a new nephrologist at my PCP's office, and he said that I was, in fact, having an allergic reaction to the antibiotic, which wasn't even the right one for my symptoms. Yay! He told me to stop the antibiotic, and he took a bunch of samples for testing. Mom made me a smoothie after, which I promptly threw up, which was actually kind of a relief because I'd been waiting to throw up for days. The swelling started going down once I stopped taking the antibiotic. Then my youngest brother started having one of his violent meltdowns, and my parents left to go grocery shopping, which meant I had to deal with him while being sick, which I did not appreciate. I threw up a couple more times and finally went to sleep again. (What a day.)
May 2, 2015, Twenty-One Years Old (Junior Year)
It was a Saturday, and I ate Pizza Hut delivery while doing homework and organizing stuff for Ch1Con 2015. My laptop was giving me trouble, and I had a lot to do, so that was frustrating.
May 2, 2016, Twenty-Two Years Old (Senior Year)
I first had my senior thesis class with the teacher whose constant off-topic gems I later shared on this blog, LOL. We talked about our theses, and a guy in the class tried to badly mansplain "sexism" to me, which was a delight. In my YA literature class, we talked about literary theory, feminism, and YA, and I struggled not to be the overexcited know-it-all that I often was in that class. I went home to take my usual, much-needed nap. Then I had a social event with some others in the apartment, which was better than some I'd been to. One guy did say the usual sexist thing about how I must like Marvel movies because of hot guys. (Um, no?) Later, I worried some about my weight because body image issues.
May 2, 2017, Twenty-Three Years Old (On Sick Leave from Online Graduate School)
I was on my first week of a low-carb elimination diet for the sake of my IBS symptoms, while in the midst of me being incredibly sick all around. I was not enjoying it. Some women from church came over to talk to me about a regular newsletter we were doing that I was assigned to edit.
May 2, 2018, Twenty-Four Years Old (Online Graduate School)
I was freaking out about Avengers: Infinity War and coming up with theories about Avengers: Endgame on Tumblr in order to cope with the feels. (My theories were not correct.) I was also reading, working on my one grad school class, and slowly editing #OCDStory. There was a gap in the summer (in my book) that I needed to figure out how to fill. I was also on another new diet for IBS symptoms, the Low FODMAP diet, that I was not enjoying.
May 2, 2019, Twenty-Five Years Old (Kira B. Edits Freelancer)
I was now trying to process Avengers: Endgame while doing line editing on a novel I'd already been hired once to do copy editing on. I was honored to be rehired, and I was also happy that this edit would mean I'd made enough money to have to file taxes as a self-employed person in 2019. LaPriel, after doing her beta read, said she thought #OCDStory was my best novel yet. I found my slowness in writing #SnowQueenStory to be disappointing, though.
Thank you all for reading about my May 2nd! I'm still wondering about whether I should cut off at some point--maybe I should end my "On This Day" posts at age twenty-five from now on? It's up to you, readers. I just want to make sure it's not too much, LOL. 😄 If anything notable happens on any particular day in the future, i still will mention it--I just won't give the full diary summary.
